Dress Diaries: Verde (part 2)

So today I cut out all the pieces and began assembling the bodice of my gown. I had a couple of shivers when I cut the silk, because I still can't get used to the fact that I have an adult job and if I really mess it up I can buy more.
I also, as you can see in the picture below, decided I would modify for the side-back lacing instead of the side lacing, because I am apparently insane. Or at least all about giving myself too much work on not enough time.
Here's the picture of all the pieces cut out and laying on my cutting mat.

And now for a digression.
The next picture is of a mess in my living room, but also has pieces of the last gown I dress diaried (or at least, started to dress diary). However, the thing I want to point out, my new favorite tool ever, the thing I think my ancestors wish they had invented is also in this picture.
It's my pizza cutter.

The pizza cutter (aka rotary cutter) makes cutting armscyes a breeze.
I did not plan this quite as well as I'd hoped on the neckline, but hopefully no one will see that bit as it will be hidden by my veil.
Tomorrow is finishing sewing the pieces together, and then I start laying out trim. I'm less excited about that because of the issue that trim is straight lined, and my body is curved, so I'm not sure how well it's going to lay out. Oh well.
It wouldn't be an adventure if I didn't plan on having it done by Crown I guess.

Date: 2010-04-29 01:20 pm (UTC)I'm really not sure how I ever worked without a rotary cutter. The other thing I've found really handy is the "quilter's ruler" (I don't actually know what it's called) that I have with bias lines marked out on it. I mean, I know our ancestors sewed without these things, but I'm just not sure how!
